About Alex
Born and raised in Madrid, Spain in 1992, I am the son of a professional soccer player. My love for a wide range of sports came naturally, never imposed upon me. While I was never compelled to play soccer or any particular sport, I was always encouraged to explore my interests.
My athletic journey began in my younger years when I started playing tennis at a local club. What began as a fun pastime with friends quickly evolved into a competitive pursuit. I soon found myself participating in regional championships and honing my skills on the court.
After my father's retirement from soccer, he took up running, completing several marathons, half marathons, and 10k races with remarkable times given his age of 50: a 2-hour and 30-minute marathon, a 1-hour and 13-minute half marathon, and a 32-minute 10k. During this period, I supported him with his training, cycling alongside him. As a teenager, this experience allowed me to bond with my father, enjoy ourselves, and also explore new sports—cycling and running.
Following this, I joined a local running club, where I encountered a diverse group of individuals. It was there that I met a triathlete, a sport I was unfamiliar with at the time. He patiently introduced me to the intricacies of triathlon and encouraged me to participate. I took his advice and joined Triatlon Atleti, —a club that resonated with me due to its beginner-friendly atmosphere and its connection to both my soccer team's colors and my father's professional history. Through this club, I formed lasting friendships and competed in races across Spain, including National Championships.
A significant life change brought me to the United States, where I embarked on a journey to adapt to a new environment and immerse myself in the world of triathlon racing. I became a member of the Brooklyn Triathlon Team, where I forged new friendships and training partnerships. My involvement in the triathlon community was reignited, leading to race victories and qualifications for prestigious events such as Nationals and the Olympic Distance World Championships in Canada.
Buoyed by these achievements, I found myself contemplating my future trajectory. This contemplation led me to seek the guidance of a skilled coach, Jaime, also recognized as TriLuarca within the triathlon sphere. Under Jaime's mentorship, I shifted my focus towards Middle Distance/Half triathlons, capitalizing on my strengths in cycling and running. Together, we achieved remarkable successes, securing multiple victories and culminating in a significant milestone—my second-place finish at Ironman 70.3 Eagleman in Maryland. This achievement not only earned me a spot at the 70.3 World Championships in St. George, Utah but also paved the way for me to earn my professional triathlete card, allowing me to compete as a Pro since that pivotal moment.
In 2023, I returned to Spain combining my current coaching role with a commitment to compete at both the national and international levels. This move signifies the continuation of my journey in the world of triathlon, as I strive for further accomplishments.
